Religious Education (RE) is a core subject within the school curriculum. Under the Education Act 1996 schools, Kings’ Forest Primary provides RE for all pupils. All parents or guardians have the right to withdraw their child from RE by an arranged meeting with the Class Teacher, Subject Leader and Head Teacher following the guidelines of SACRE (Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education).
RE is taught according to the Locally Agreed Syllabus ‘Mystery and Meaning’. This syllabus reflects the fact that the religious traditions in Great Britain are in the main Christian, while taking account of the teachings and practices of the five other principal religions represented in Great Britain.
The six religions are covered in the following year groups:
Foundation Stage Predominately Christian
Year One Predominately Christian
Year Two Christianity and Buddhism
Year Three Christianity and Sikhism
Year Four Christianity and Judaism
Year Five Christianity and Islam
Year Six Christianity/ Hinduism / Other Religions
Pupils will develop their knowledge and understanding of religion, religious beliefs, practices, tradition and their influences on individuals, communities, societies and cultures. It enables children to gain respect and tolerance of the different religions in Great Britain and the wider world and helps their own spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. |
