This term Year 2s topic has been ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, which has included lots of work about animals in the Amazon Rainforest. On Wednesday 14th October, the children visited Bristol Zoo and participated in a very informative and fun workshop, which gave them the chance to learn more about rainforests, the animals who live there and what part the children can play in helping to preserve the rainforests.
They also had the opportunity to hold a hissing cockroach!
After lunch, the children were able to walk around and see some more of the zoo animals, the favourites of course being the meerkats.
On Wednesday 7th October, Year One visited Turner’s Farm shop to buy some vegetables and see how they grow. On the way, we walked through the common and stopped to see the various colours of Autumn. A few of us even spotted some Willow trees that we have been learning to identify.
We enjoyed discovering the fruits and vegetables growing in the allotments.
Each group had the task to buy different ingredients for our vegetable soup. Some of us bought potatoes, onions, parsnips, carrots and others bought some pumpkins.
Later on we chopped and peeled the vegetables ready to cook some delicious pumpkin soup.
This is our second week of being in school full time. We have settled in to school really well and are having lots of fun learning new things.
We have started learning phonics which will help us to read and write. We now know m, a, s and d. We have been finding things that start with these sounds and practising writing the graphemes.
In maths we have been learning how to count a group of objects carefully. To do this we need to put them in a line first and say one number each time we touch an object. We are also learning how to add one more.
We have been learning about people who help us and talking about what they do.
We have thought about the writing that these people have to do and had a go in our role play.
