Year 4 blast off!

Last week in year 4, we completed a ‘Big Write.’ Following the safe landing of Tim Peake, we have been thinking in class about what it would be like to be an astronaut. To explore this further, we decided to write a first-hand account about what it would be like to blast off into space!

Before we planned our piece we thought about several questions.

  • What would you have to do to become an astronaut?
  • What would it feel like to go to space in a rocket?
  • What would we look forward to doing when we got to space?

The children were provided some excellent ideas and worked very hard on their writing. Many of our astronauts were looking forward to their first space walk and even their first space ice cream!

Here are some pictures of the children with their work and some quotes from the day.

“I can’t wait to get to space and do a moon walk!” – Kayla

“When I get to space, I am going to contact home and tell them all about my trip.” – Leah.

Medieval Britain

This term in year 5, our topic is Medieval Britain. We started our topic with a bang and learnt lots about life in medieval times.

Firstly, we took part in an orienteering challenge to find research questions to answer. Then we used books, leaflets and laptops to find out about the black plague, medieval medicines, Joan of Arc and the Magna Carta to name a few. We created power points and posters to share with the class which were really impressive.

In the afternoon, we tried out some traditional medieval games. Some we still play today which was quite a surprise. We played pick-up sticks, tic-tac-toe, hop scotch, marbles, tennis and quoits.

We had great fun and are looking forward to finding out more about life in Medieval Britain.
