Winter in Reception!

We have a wonderful winter term in Reception so far. We worked so hard to put together our Nativity and we are so proud of our performances. We’ve achieved so much this term by working really hard in English and Maths. We also loved having our friends and family in for a Christmas morning.

Year 6 blog – Read All About It!

Betty Bus!

This week year 6 were visited by the Betty Bus – a touring workshop (on a double-decker bus) which aims to promote understanding and empathy around the topic of periods.

We were very impressed by the mature way in which all the children took part in each session, the quality of the questions they asked and the understanding that they showed. More aspects of our SRE topic were taught during the week and will be revisited by the end of the year. The Betty Bus team emailed the school, praising the children for their excellent behaviour – thank you Year 6!

It has been wonderful to see so many of our year six children attending the extra learning sessions which have organised especially for them, including before and after school sessions where children have had the chance to further practise and hone their skills in maths and reading in preparation for the SATs in May. Those children who have been attending regularly have seen an impact in their confidence in lessons and are finding that they can move their learning on much more quickly – fantastic!

In two weeks, year 6 will be taking part in the annual carol concert at Clifton Cathedral, where we will join with other schools to celebrate Christmas and start to get in the festive mood!

In science the children have been exploring which makes a better battery – a lemon or a potato! They have had to apply their knowledge of simple electrical circuits and electrical current to analyse in order to reach a conclusion.

Well done Year 6 for all your superb hard work this term – your narrative writing was outstanding and your commitment to achieving your absolute best really showed in your final pieces. Keep up the hard work!
